ATM Verify

The Check Verification ATM Verify service validates bank routing and account numbers. Additionally, this check verification service provides balance validation for a handful of financial institutions. The ATM Verify service is comprised of two levels.
Level 1: The ATM System will perform a real-time query of the bank to verify that the account can cover the amount of the transaction. The response will indicate if the account has sufficient funds (Code P71), if the account is valid but no balance information was known (Code P70) or whether another condition exists that can be described using other response values.
Level 2: Transactions not receiving a definitive response (i.e. POS or NEG) will then be checked by the Level 2 service. This ATM System consults the status reported by the bank to determine if the account is valid and in good standing. The response will indicate if the account is open and valid, closed or has other similar conditions.
The Level 2 service operates on a much larger number of banks than Level 1. Most tier I & II banks are participants but some local banks and smaller credit unions may not be. Transactions not receiving a definitive response (such as POS or NEG) will then be checked against the national negative check database also know as the NCN Verify service.
